Mountain View meetup on 3 August 2008
I will be heading up to Palo Alto, California on Sunday, 3 August 2008. That evening afternoon might be a good time to hang out with any potential Outquisitioners Outquisitors in the Bay Area. If anyone wants to talk about some ideas over coffee or beer, send me an email.

If there would be any interest in a regional meeting in the LA area I would like to volunteer to help organize over here. It’s an interesting synchronicity to find this group suddenly this morning. I’ve been having the same conversations over the past week with my friends too. Certainly, we must be on to something cool if several of us are all simultaneously thinking the same thing.

I’m really interested in this kind of discussion, and what it means. I’ve been frustrated by what I percieve to be my lack of resourcefullness and power to change the world that others have changed for me. The brief, but interesting ideas behind the outquisition I think might really be able to help some people. Where do I sign?
Living in Michigan, on the west side of the state (a refugee from Detroit) I can’t make it to Palo Alto, but would love to be involved somehow.

Hello Outquisitors,
I feel like I’m already living the dream! I, and a group of fellow artists and innovators, have moved to the State of Jefferson (interesting story - check it out), the true northern California.
Coming from the S.F. Bay area, we feel like pioneers after moving into run-down and abandoned buildings in small towns like Weed, Ca.
My home.
The native townsfolk hardly know what to think of us but they also need to adapt to survive.
Last winter I lived in one warm room because my building’s heating system was so antiquated that I tore it out and am trying to go green!
We’re living on shoe strings and baling wire - making art and living as non-consumerist/non-conformist as possible.
It’a a real life.
I heard of the Outquisition at BoingBoing (ALL HAIL!). I’m quite intrigued. There are, in my opinion, too many people who are living a consumerist life, completely devoid of survival skills and in which a long line at WAL*FART is the most unnerving situation imaginable. The day will come when if you don’t have the wherewithal to attain your own food (grow or hunt), you’d better have something useful and of value to trade to someone who does.
I envision solar panels, water wheels and windmills/turbines all over the place, connected to local power grids. I see local governance without Federal intrusion, peaceful enclaves of resourceful folk just living a simple, happy, (somewhat) stress-free life, in which it’s not about how much money you can squeeze out of the System, but about what you can DO for yourself and others to improve the situation.
This could be good. Hopefully it can make a difference by helping people prepare themselves, rather than just stepping in after the crud hits the fan…

If anyone here wants to get together in the East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley area), or San Francisco, say the word and we’ll figure out how to get in touch. Weekday evenings/nights, or weekend afternoons/evenings/nights work for me.

This is a fantastic idea. I think of it like “boy scouts for grownups” — an organization devoted to self and community improvement. I’m up for an 8/3 Palo Alto meetup.

I’m in for a meetup. I’ll be unemployed by then so I will have the free time. Hopefully it will be at someplace we can talk easily that is also cheap.
